Mandela Charity /Fun day Event

Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and make an impact. It is a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa and a global icon of peace, reconciliation, and social justice. Mandela Day is celebrated on July 18th, which is Nelson Mandela’s birthday. The day was officially declared by the United Nations in 2009 as a way to recognize Mandela’s contribution to the struggle for democracy and human rights, and to inspire people around the world to take action to make a positive difference in their communities.

The main idea behind Mandela Day is that everyone has the ability to change the world for the better, no matter how small their actions may seem. The day encourages people to dedicate 67 minutes of their time – one minute for each year of Mandela’s public service – to helping others and making a difference in their communities. I chose to raise funds and donated Food, Create a joyful day for the children living with Disability in Spitskop Special needs school,

There are many ways to participate in Mandela Day, from volunteering at a local charity or organization, to organizing a community clean-up, to simply reaching out to someone in need. The goal is to inspire people to take action and make a positive impact, no matter how big or small. The idea for the charity and fun day came about when I learned about a local organization that provides support and resources for children with special needs. I was inspired by their work and wanted to do something to help make a difference in the lives of these children. With the support of my friends and family, I began planning the event, which included games, activities, and a fundraising component to raise money for the organization.

My vision is to make sure that any person living with Disability is treated with love and care, it was more than a fun day but a caring day. The involvement of the stakeholders such as Department of Justice, Department of Education, Life love Group, Correctional Services, Vuyiseka Mbube Mrs. Bold SA finalist 2024, Roots Butchery and Fear Fokkol Biker Club, who always support my journey made this day possible , we came with jumping castle for kids to play, face paint, hula-hoops, brought Hotdogs for Lunch, Fruits to snack & Pop corns. We were playing, dancing, singing, I could feel the happiness was field all over. Mostly we donated food that will at least sustain them for 6Months. The Charity was Held in Spitskop Special Needs School in Thabazimbi Limpopo, on the 18th of July at 11 am till 4pm,

In reflecting on Mandela Day, I am also reminded of the need to continue the work that Mandela started. While progress has been made in the fight for equality and justice, there is still much work to be done. It is up to each of us to carry on Mandela’s legacy and work towards a world where all people are treated with dignity and respect. As a member of my community, I have always believed in the importance of giving back and supporting those in need. This belief was further reinforced when I had the opportunity to organize a charity and fun day for special needs children in my area. This experience not only allowed me to make a positive impact on the lives of these children, but also taught me valuable lessons about the power of community and the importance of empathy and compassion.

On the day of the event, I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the community. People came from all over to volunteer their time and resources, the children and their families were thrilled to participate in the activities. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces and the joy in their eyes as they played games, danced, and enjoyed the day.

I went to each stakeholder, invited them to attend the event, the turnout was they will sponsor us with items we needed such as:

  • Grocery to donate
  • Muscle toy trainer for kids
  • Snacks e.g. ( Fruits, Pop corns, Juice)
  • Jumping Castle, Face Paints for kids, Hula-hoops
  • Lunch for the day, soft Drinks
  • Music

On Mandela Day, I was reminded of the power of collective action and the importance of coming together to address the challenges facing our communities. Whether it is through volunteering, donating, or advocating for change, there are countless ways that we can make a difference in the world. Mandela Day serves as a call to action for each of us to do our part in creating a more just and peaceful world. Our event was a success through our power of unity, Mandela Day serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that one person can have on the world. It is a day to reflect on Mandela’s legacy and to recommit ourselves to the fight for equality. As we celebrate Mandela Day, we remembered the importance of standing up for what is right and working towards a more than just and equitable society. Love, kindness and caring was shared on this day, I saw not just a fun day but a child and a parent day, were we learned to reconnect ourselves with the mind of our Children living in disability, #letsusshowthemlove #Disabilitylove .

As a Mrs. Bold SA finalist who organized a fun day event at Spitskop for special needs children, I have gained profound insights into the significance of inclusivity, empathy, and understanding. This experience has provided valuable lessons about the unique challenges and joys of working with individuals with special needs. One key takeaway is the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of their abilities. By planning activities that catered to the diverse needs of the children, we ensured that everyone felt included and valued. This taught me the importance of adapting and modifying activities to meet each child’s specific needs and creating a safe, supportive space where everyone can participate and have fun.

Furthermore, working with special needs children has underscored the importance of empathy and understanding. Approaching each child with patience, compassion, and an open mind is crucial, as each individual has unique strengths and challenges. By taking the time to listen to the children, observe their behaviors, and understand their needs, I was able to build meaningful connections and create a positive, supportive environment for them to thrive. This experience also highlighted the power of positivity and resilience. Despite various challenges and obstacles, the children displayed incredible strength, determination, and joy. Their ability to find happiness in the simplest activities reminded me of the importance of gratitude, resilience, and maintaining a positive attitude in the face of adversity.

Through this experience, I learned that giving back to the community is not only a selfless act, but also a rewarding one. The sense of fulfillment and joy that comes from making a positive impact on the lives of others is truly priceless. I also learned the power of community and the importance of coming together to support those in need. When we work together, we can achieve great things and make a real difference in the world. One of the most memorable moments of the event was when a young boy with autism approached me and thanked me for organizing the day. He told me that he had never felt so included and accepted before, and that the event had made a huge difference in his life.

This moment brought tears to my eyes and underscored the significance of fostering inclusive and supportive communities for everyone, regardless of their abilities. However, the politicians who tried to steal my work for their own fame posed a challenge, as they wanted to appear as the event organizers. I took a stand for what I knew was right, refusing to work with individuals who sought personal glory over community building. I put a stop to their interference, emphasizing that the event was about the children, not their fame.

In conclusion, organizing a fun day event for children with special needs has been both rewarding and enlightening. I have gained valuable insights into inclusivity, empathy, understanding, positivity, and resilience, which I will carry forward in all aspects of my life. This experience has deepened my appreciation for the unique abilities and perspectives of individuals with special needs and inspired me to continue advocating for inclusivity and acceptance in all areas of society. The charity and fun day for special needs children was a transformative experience, teaching me important lessons about empathy, compassion, and the power of community. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a meaningful event and look forward to continuing to support those in need in my community.
